SMART's Online Community for Educators Provides Hundreds of Free Teaching Resources

EDCompass™ helps educators exchange teaching ideas to improve learning with SMART products

Calgary, AB – October 20, 2003 – SMART Technologies Inc. announces hundreds of free online resources for immediate classroom use with SMART products through the EDCompass online community (www.edcompass.smarttech.com). New additions to EDCompass include an expanded library of lesson activities and Web resources to make using SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards for learning even easier. A research and evaluation section helps educators understand the impact SMART products are having in the classroom. Educators can now subscribe to the new EDCompass monthly newsletter, a free e-newsletter featuring product news, exclusive offers, new templates and clip art, and technology tips and tricks.

Speller, a new software application to be available as a free download for SMART customers from EDCompass, is a new, hands-on lesson activity that uses digital flashcards and sound effects to help primary students develop vocabulary and improve spelling skills.

"Over the past few years, we've discovered immense value in using SMART Board interactive whiteboards in our classrooms," says Susan Clark, teacher at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. "We're always looking for new ways to use SMART products to keep our students actively involved in lessons. EdCompass provides the means for us to learn from fellow educators and explore new ideas and techniques for teaching with technology."

“Educators have expressed their appreciation for the curriculum-friendly collection of teaching resources available through the EDCompass online community,” says Nancy Knowlton, president and co-CEO of SMART. “EDCompass reflects SMART's commitment to provide educators with flexible teaching tools and resources which are ready-to-use or easily customized for different teaching styles and curricula."
